About this Briefing Note

Report by: Scott Walker, Strategic Lead Finance & Business Support

Date: 20 April 2026

Subject: Community Insurance Policies

Details

Purpose

The purpose of this briefing is to inform elected members of the proposed change to how insurance cover is provided to Community groups e.g. Beautiful Perth, Blairgowrie Town Hall Association, Viewlands Venture and North Muirton Community Council.

The change involves moving each group from the current shared insurance policy to an individual, stand‑alone policy. This will ensure community groups receive more tailored cover, improved service quality and more efficient policy management.

Briefing information

Under the current arrangement, community groups are insured under a single shared policy alongside a number of similar organisations. To improve the quality, speed, and flexibility of the service provided, each community group will move to a dedicated insurance policy tailored to its individual needs. Under this arrangement, groups will deal directly with Zurich Insurance for all insurance matters, including premium payments.

Key benefits of a separate policy

  • Insurance products will be tailored more precisely to your community groups type and requirements.
  • Community Groups will receive an immediate indication of eligibility after providing a small amount of basic information.
  • Community Groups can choose the specific cover options and limits that best suit their needs.
  • All policy documents will be emailed directly as soon as cover is arranged.
  • The renewal process will be straightforward and efficient.

How will groups pay for insurance?

Further details on payment methods and schedules will be supplied during the setup process.

What happens next?

Corporate Insurance will contact each group individually to guide them through the transition and ensure the new policy arrangements are put in place smoothly.
