Subject: Fuel spill at River Dochart

Purpose

This Briefing Note provides Elected Members with an update on the  fuel spill affecting the River Dochart, which feeds into Loch Tay.

Briefing Information

On Thursday, 19 February, we received report of a diesel spill in Loch Tay.

It is understood fuel has leaked into the River Dochart, which feeds into Loch Tay.

Our Private Water Supply team is aware of the incident but are not currently aware of any abstractions directly from the Loch..

Tayside Health Protection Team is maintaining a watching brief and is in contact with Forth Valley Health Board.

Stirling Council is also aware.

SEPA will monitor the potential impact on wildlife in the area. Their officers are currently on site and working to identify the cause of the pollution incident.

Residents in Killin have been advised not to drink water from the tap and Scottish Water is providing alternative supplies.

As a precaution Scottish Water will also be monitoring water at the Perth Water Treatment Works for any possible contamination.
