Purpose
This Briefing Note provides members with an update on protests outside hotels providing accommodation to people seeking asylum.
Briefing Information
A protest against hotels being used to provide accommodation for people seeking asylum is expected in Perth on Saturday.
The protest has been organised by the Unite the Clans Scotland group online and is asking demonstrators to meet at the Queen's Hotel at 11am.
Perth Against Racism is organising a counter protest.
Police Scotland will have resources in place to respond to the protest and Council officers are on standby to assist if required.
Mears will also have additional staff on site.
A similar protest is also expected to take place in Falkirk later on Saturday.
Four people charged after a protest in Wellmeadow in Blairgowrie on 2 May appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Thursday. All pleaded not guilty with trial set for 9 November.
A Bellshill man was charged for a separate offence following a protest outside 2 High Street on 11 April.
His case has been continued without plea to 2 July.
