Purpose
To provide elected members with an overview of the World Cup 2026 Fund.
Briefing Information
In February 2026 the Council granted a fund of £26,000 to celebrate the Scottish national men's football team qualifying for the 2026 World Cup for the first time since 1998.
The aim of the fund was to encourage communities to come together by providing small grants to community groups for appropriate events connected with celebrating Scotland's participation in the World Cup.
Funding Criteria
- Projects must be football events or activities linked to the World Cup 2026
- Projects must promote participation and are not already part of the group's regular or ongoing programme
- Projects must promote or enhance volunteering opportunities
All proposals must demonstrate a clear connection to one of the five categories
Funds must be used for projects taking place during the World Cup 2026, between 11 June and 19 July 2026
The funding was broken down into the following five categories to ensure fairness and to maximise its potential use:
- Children and young people
- Walking football
- Women's football
- Para football
- Adult recreational
Groups/organisations could apply once in each of the five categories, for up to £1,000 per category.
Funding Allocations
The funding panel met on 12 May 2026 to review the applications and ensure they met the eligibility criteria.
Funding was allocated through collective agreement using a scoring matrix. The panel consisted of representatives from the Council's Community Learning and Development and Equalities Team, the Council's Economy, Development and Planning Team and Live Active Leisure. Funding was awarded to the following groups:

Monitoring and Evaluation
Groups who were successful in receiving funding will be required to complete a monitoring form by 31 July 2026 to demonstrate how they used the grant and the impact it made including:
- How the project brought football to life in Perth and Kinross
- How many people benefitted from each project
- How the project increased participation in football
- How the project promoted and enabled volunteering
- What they will do to continue the activity
The information provided will be used to generate a report demonstrating the impact that the fund had across Perth and Kinross.
