Date: 20 February 2026

Subject: Protests over accommodation for people seeking asylum

Details

Purpose

This Briefing Note provides members with an update on protests outside hotels providing accommodation to people seeking asylum.

Briefing Information

A protest against hotels being used to provide accommodation for people seeking asylum is expected in Perth on Saturday.

As has been seen in Falkirk this week, organisers of the protest are not expected to release details of their planned action until two hours before it takes place.

However, the protest is expected around 11am. It is not known exactly what form it will take.

No counter protest is expected.

Police Scotland will have resources in place to respond to the protest and Council officers are on standby to assist if required.

Mears will also have additional staff on site.
